I know that I got home late last night, but Kendra's inability to sleep was a variable I was not expecting. She must have gotten into some coffee because she was hyper. Although I got home after one, sleep did not find me until after 3:00. Usually in the summer months this is irrelevant, but with training and the need to wake up at 6:00, it was made a little more important. I didn't know how I was going to make it through the day considering I woke up shaky and with eyes of fire, but it all worked out just fine. Sometimes there are little things that happen in your day that cause you to completely forget everyday functions. I made it through the training, came home and slept. Now I'll be good for another couple of hours before sleep finds me again.

Day 109: One Ear Open
This is what I came home to tonight. Somebody had a busy day. I think I'd like to do the same.
One highlight of the day was a visit from a student I had four years ago. We used to have lunch together everyday and then after the year was over, we lost touch. It was so amazing to see how much she has grown and matured. Once a student that was hating school and had kind of given up, now a student with straight A's and ambition to help others by selecting a career like pediatrician or social worker. Visits like this are definitely one of the perks of the job.

Day 19: Falling Houses
I came home from work tonight and found my boots laid out this way from last night. I found it comical because it reminds me of the Wizard of Oz. It felt like someone dropped a house on me last night, but I don't think I'm a wicked witch (some people may disagree).
I enjoyed our conversation about sleep in my class last night. The author of the book we are reading believes that we sleep to allow our dreams to process all of our thoughts and problem solve. The dreams run through a variety of scenarios to determine the best solution. I don't know if this is exactly right, but I do think there is some truth to it. I cannot describe how many nights I go to bed anxious about a problem, and wake up feeling better about the issue. I tend to get most of my problem solving ideas in the morning, shortly after waking up. I love learning about how our minds work and trying to harness that understanding in a way to improve life experiences.
